Born Yesterday - Quadeca

The most powerful, heartbreaking and masterfully made single of the year so far

I've been a quadeca fan since I heard the song Sisyphus. The production on the song put him on my radar as an artist making exactly what I love to hear in music. Maximalistic production. There's so much going on and so many details and not to mention just how nice it all sounds.

Born Yesterday is the same but this time focusing that power to making something that truly hits you in your heart and leaving me with goosebumps. The song starts out with this arpeggio guitar and then it starts to slowly rise more and more. My favorite part of the song happens around the 4 Minute mark, It's the most emotionally powerful part and it's so heartbreaking and so well done. I thought it was about quadeca's mom dying but then ofcourse I read a comment calling me stupid for thinking that and it's actually about quadeca dying and the song is about his perspecive as the person who died as the people around him are mourning his death and his mom is moving on from him. It's such a poetic and interesting perspective to take from death and I love it so much.

After having this song stuck in my head for almost a month now I think I've realized something about the song I didn't before. Quadeca didn't just die. He killed himself. He popped a vein and he made a wish. He made a dayplan that he should have delayed and he cut is wrists and dies, and now all he wants is out. He's seeing everyone's grief after his death and seeing how hard it's taken a toll on everyone but most importantly his mother. It gives this song an ever deeper layer of sadness cause it was Quadeca's actions that caused this and he has to witness everyone's pain after his loss.

Then there's the music video for this song! It's so fucking cool. Quadeca's outfit is so cool and unique and the music video really helps show what the song is about. There's so much attention to detail and it really adds so much to the power of this song.

Quadeca is the most underrated artist I know and judging by this single. I think this album is gonna be something that proves that. I can't wait for "I Didn't Mean To Haunt You" to come out

10/10
