"UTOPIA" - Travis Scott
TRAVIS SCOTT IS BACK BABY
UTOPIA is Travis scotts newest record, 4 years since his last record, UTOPIA has been the highest anticipated album of the year for most people. I myself was really excited to hear it seeing as Rodeo and ASTROWORLD are the best trap hip-hop albums I've ever heard.
The album starts of amazingly with the track HYAENA. The song is extremely intense with tribal drums mixed with indian esque instrumentation. The track starts the album on an extremely high note and leaves you really hyped for what's coming next.
THANK GOD is produced by Kanye West which explains how it can be minimalistic but not boring. There's enough seasoning on this track to keep it engaging, the track's best part is the midway point where it switches and at the 2:00 point it switches again and it livens the track up.
MODERN JAM is a very experimenal track and the drum pattern is really interesting but I think the production choices that are around the drums weren't good choices. The vocals at the chorus are loud and kind of hurt my ears lol. I love that the track is experimental but it's not perfected. The piano chords at teezo's part are nice and the "Of course, you le me in, she gotta pat me down" melody is cool.
MY EYES is INCREDIBLE. I really love the vibe of it, it's meloncholy, pretty and beautiful. It's a definite highlight. It feels like a UTOPIA. It feels heavenly. I LOVE the composition, the synth choice is perfect. I don't know whether it's perfect to cry to or smile to, I think you can do both. AND THE SWITCH-UP!!!!! The drums come in and it creates sense of urgency as if you can't be in this utopia forever.
GOD'S COUNTRY is the first song that I feel very neutrala about it, it's kind of boring and doesn't give me enough to latch onto and there's a lot of songs that are like that, not unique enough and just sound very basic. GOD'S COUNRY is by no means basic, the vocal sample is haunting and dark.
SIRENS goes hard AF. The switchup is beautiful and the song is pretty sick overall.
MELTDOWN is my least favorite song off the album, it's SO FUCKING BORING!
The rest of the songs are pretty good. The highlights of the later half is definitely LOST FOREVER and LOOOVE
LOST FOREVER IS SO FUCKING SICK! IT'S SO FUCKING GOOD! I LOVE THE VIBE! IT'S DARK, BEAUTIFUL and SO FUCKING WELL PRODUCED! I love the first half the most, james blake pitched up vocals with the dark instrumentation is hellish in the coolest way possible
LOOOVE is an intense and high energy track with crazy good production, I love how experimental it is. The male choir in the background sounds so ominous and cool.
K-POP more like crap-pop, L
TIL FURTHER NOTICE is an ascending ending to the album, Metro boom and James Blake is an incredible combo ngl. I fucking love Hummingbird and Mile High and TIL FURTHER NOTICE is another instance of the match made in heaven which is metro booming and James Blake, James Blake's vocals are amazing, the vibe is heavenly and the bass shakes the whole room in the best way possible
Overall I think the album is great but could have used a bit of cutting. A lot of the songs in the middle or kind of boring bu it's mostly great overall. The experimental points are huge highlights and the bland parts are disappointing.
