Jesus Is King - Kanye West

Unique, Iconic but disappointing.

Jesus Is King is the album that came instead of the album "Yhandi". Kanye converted to christianity and it severly worsened this project from what it was originally. Yhandi was leaked and in the leak you could see the orignal versions of some of the songs that appreared on Jesus Is King and it's crazy how kanye just made the songs worse like the song "Use This Gospel" The original song was called "The Law Of Attraction" and that version had so much more to it while "Use This Gospel" only picks up at the last 30 seconds and then ends.

Let's start with the positives. The album begins with the song "Every Hour" a nice and exciting choir song. The song "Follow God" is a BANGER, The beat is bopping and lyrically kanye raps really well on this one. Closed On Sunday has a very dark and cool vibe with this bass and vocal arpeggios. On God was my favorite on the album for a bit, The synth is really cool and catchy and it is an all round cool track. The song "Hands On" is REALLY cool, I love the vibe of the song with the vocoded vocal loop and this dark synth.

Now for the negatives. After the first song we have the song "Selah" which just immediately shows off the problems of this album. Not only does the album ruin a bunch of great songs but the lyrics on this version are just not good. like the line "Everybody wanted yandhi, Then Jesus Christ did the laundry" ???. "Closed On Sunday" although a cool sounding track has really questionable lyrics like "Closed on Sunday, You my Chick-fil-A" And at the end kanye just screams "Chick-fil-A" and it just sounds like this album is a joke. the song "Water" Is just kinda boring to me and so is "God Is" and then we have "Use This Gospel" This song was originally my favorite off the album. It's got this really cool vocal effect on it and the sound of it is so unique but then I heard what it was on "Yhandi" and I realized that just how barren this version is. It really sucks cause it was such a great song but it was downgraded to just a loop which makes no sense.

Even with it's flaws. It's still a kanye album so it's better than most rap albums out there. It's way more iconic, Unique, Amazing and Original than most hip-hop by other artists but it is such a step down from what it could have been.
